Novo Nordisk to use Linguamatics’s text mining solution

Healthcare company Novo Nordisk has entered into a multi-year agreement with Linguamatics Ltd to use the I2E semantic knowledge discovery platform for text mining.

At Novo Nordisk, I2E will be used to mine published literature and internal information sources to provide business critical intelligence for R&D decision makers.

Henning Nielsen, Director, Library and Information Centre at Novo Nordisk, said the company is seeking up-to-date intelligence from unstructured textual data.

I2E’s natural language processing (NLP) based text mining, which supports meaning-based querying of large datasets, is used for gaining insights from content such as biomedical literature, internal reports, patents and news sources. This discovery platform treats unstructured and semi-structured text as a structured, context-specific database that users can query to enable decision support. It is being used for a variety of life science applications including biomarker discovery, target selection, safety/tox, pharmacogenomics, systems biology, competitor intelligence and sentiment analysis.

The Pharmaceutical research community is increasingly looking at automated ways of getting free text data from formats that can be used immediately for analysis.

According to the company, I2E enables very specific searches and tabulated results. Other than generating data for analysis, this functionality enables I2E to be used in real time data-gathering tasks such as ontology creation.
